Sourav Ganguly Endorses Rohit Sharma for T20 World Cup Leadership

After ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, one more World Cup is loading. The T20 World Cup is all set to be staged in June 2024. Before the tournament starts, there is a dicey situation in the Indian team. Their captaincy is a concern. BCCI wants Rohit Sharma to lead the team. Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly backed Rohit Sharma to Lead India in that tournament.

After Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma has become the captain of the Indian team. After that, he gave his best to take India to the next level. In his captaincy, India performed exceptionally well. India beat all the teams in the group stage and the semifinal stage. They were the only team to qualify in the World Cup final being unbeaten. Unfortunately, they finished the tournament as the runners-up. Rohit has done an amazing captaincy job in that tournament. BCCI is impressed by his captaincy and wants him to lead Team India in the T20 World Cup.  

Sourav Ganguly was the BCCI President when Rohit Sharma became the captain. He always praised Rohit for his exceptional talent. In this captaincy topic, Sourav Ganguly backed him. He said, “I expect that Rohit Sharma will continue as captain till the T20 World Cup in 2024.”

Rohit Sharma as T20 Captain and Recent Scenario:

Rohit Sharma is an excellent whiteball player. As the T20 captain, Rohit led the Men in Blue in 51 matches. They registered 39 wins. He has several records in this format but, after the T20 World Cup, Rohit has not been part of any T20 matches. After that, Hardik Pandya captained India in most of the T20 matches.

After the World Cup 2023, India is playing a five-match T20 series against Australia. Rohit Sharma is not playing the series. He has been given rest. Hardik Pandya also got injured during the World Cup. In their absence, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the team against Australia. After that, India will travel to South Africa. India will play 3 T20 matches and 3 ODI matches in that series. Rohit Sharma asked BCCI for rest from the white ball format of this series. He will come back in the test series against South Africa.
