What Happened to Mikasa and Armin After the Ending?

Attack on Titan has wrapped up, ending one of anime’s most epic tales. The finale showcased a huge battle with the Scout Regiment fighting for humanity’s future and the world itself against Eren Yeager. The Scouts emerged victorious, saving the world, even though 80% of humanity perished.

The intense showdown ended with Mikasa taking down Eren, ending the Rumbling and preventing further destruction. With Mikasa and Eren unable to be together, what happened next with her and Armin?

Despite their heroics, there were still challenges. While the world accepted Paradis Island, there were lingering Yeagerists who embraced their Eldian identity. The Scout Regiment, now seen as heroes, faced the task of being ambassadors, sharing their story with the world.

With Paradis Island no longer holding Titan powers, the Scouts had the freedom to lead normal lives. In a poignant moment, Eren’s grave is visited by his friends and comrades, symbolising the end of an era.

What happened to Armin and Mikasa

In their small town, Armin, Mikasa, and Eren were best friends with matching dreams and worldviews. They had this tradition of racing to a tree on the outskirts. Eren always won, Mikasa came second, and Armin, in his usual way, lagged behind. Oddly enough, this race mirrored the order in which their stories would unfold, and reflects the order they pass away.

Of course, Eren is the one who dies first and rests under the tree in his grave. The anime shows us what happens to Mikasa afterward. She moves on, gets married, and starts a family. It would have taken her a long time to do so, at least ten years, as Eren had hoped. Even though she moves forward, she doesn’t forget Eren, and remains tethered to the memory of her dear friend. The passage of years doesn’t erase Eren from her heart. When Mikasa’s time comes, she chooses to rest beside Eren, ensuring that even in death, their bond endures.

Now, Armin, the one who always came in last in the races, is now an old man seen visiting Eren and Mikasa’s graves. The once strategic thinker, now aged and frail, stands alone after bidding farewell to his dear friends. Under the tree, Armin seems to linger, awaiting the moment when he can reunite with Eren and Mikasa in the realm beyond, completing the circle of their extraordinary connection.
