This Highly Controversial Shoe Just Got the Kim Kardashian Stamp of Approval

Last year was a banner year for the Margiela Tabi. After a TikTok user was swindled out of her pair by a thieving date, the split-toe shoe catapulted into the public consciousness, and became the hottest shoe in the world, per the Lyst Q3 Index. A once-underground footwear choice, these shoes have kept their controversial label even as A-listers like Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo give them the green light.

But as of today, the Tabis are officially Kardashian-approved. Kim Kardashian attended the Maison Margiela spring 2024 couture show in Paris wearing a black velvet pair of the brand’s split-toe heels—a collaboration between Margiela and Christian Louboutin.

Kardashian paired the shoes with a black cutout-riddled maxi dress affixed with pompoms, and accessorized with a massive choker that ensconced her entire neck in a metallic, bejeweled cast. She attended the show alongside her mother, Kris Jenner, who wore a riff on her go-to suiting: a white button-down over a black overcoat with a white ruffled sleeve, and black leather gloves. Jenner also took a pair of Tabis for a spin, choosing a pair of patent leather loafer with the signature hoof-like toes.

Kim isn’t the first member of the Kar-Jenner clan to rock the hotly contested shoes. At the brand’s couture show in January 2023, Kylie Jenner wore a pair of rhinestone-encrusted Tabis, which she paired with a blue ruffly tulle coat and a seafoam mini slip dress. The youngest Jenner, also in attendance at this year’s show, wore a skintight short-sleeve midi dress covered in gray paillettes, which she matched to her sheer tulle gloves. This time, though, she left the Tabis to her sister, opting instead for a pair of white heels, presumably also part of Margiela’s collaboration with Louboutin.

While the shoes may still have their share of haters, Kim Kardashian has taken a firm pro-Tabis stance.
