The Top Ten Solar Eclipse Day Things To Watch Out For [Video] |Kids Activities Blog

When is the next solar eclipse? A total solar eclipse scheduled for April 8, 2024!

A Solar Eclipse is so Cool!

Watching the Next Solar Eclipse

You can find out more information about solar eclipse schedules at the Great American Eclipse website. So many times big events pass us by because we think, “Oh, I’ll catch the next one,” but in this case, you will not get that chance.

If you’ve been putting off figuring out what you need to know about the eclipse, here’s the take away!

1. don’t buy plants that day

There was a Solar Eclipse on Aug 21, 2016

Okay, that one might be based off of my knowledge of musical theater than anything and a joke, but a full solar eclipse can confuse a plant just a bit.

3. know the path and know when to watch

The closer you are to the path of the eclipse, the better your show. But that doesn’t mean you won’t get a great show outside of the path!

3. make sure you have the right glasses

Do NOT look at the eclipse unless you have the right eyewear

Not all glasses are built the same, and you want to make sure you see everything you need to see, so forth, know what to look for.

Also, we prefer NOT looking at the sun with kids for safety reasons, so check out How to make a solar eclipse viewer from a cereal box – it is fun!

It isn’t that you won’t enjoy the eclipse if you don’t know what you’re looking for, but understanding a bit of what’s happening, like shadow snakes, and solar beads, dropping temperatures…that all makes it a lot more fun:

  • Did you know some animals are going to act strangely?
  • Like birds who stop chirping, spiders packing up their webs, you might even catch a bat or two in the sky.
