“Steal his boots”: Wasim Akram’s hilarious solution to tackle Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling

Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram had a light-hearted suggestion for dealing with Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah after his impressive performance helped India secure a 100-run victory over England in the ongoing World Cup. Akram humorously proposed stealing Bumrah’s boots to stop his deliveries, praising the bowler’s skill.

Bumrah’s remarkable inswinging deliveries left England’s batsmen struggling in the opening spell, claiming the wickets of Dawid Malan and Joe Root early in the innings. Akram shared his thoughts on a show hosted by Pakistan Sports Channel A Sports, saying, “If you want to stop Jasprit Bumrah, steal his boots. When you bring the ball from the right-hand side, the ball is coming inside. So, the batsman will play from the angle. When the ball comes out from the inside, the batsman will be beaten.”

Akram also acknowledged that Bumrah has better control with the new ball compared to his own playing days, noting the subtle differences in their techniques.

Another former cricketer, Mike Atherton, praised Bumrah and Mohammed Shami’s excellent bowling performance against England. Atherton emphasised the importance of Mohammed Shami’s contribution in controlling England’s batting and credited him with a crucial wicket.

India, after a shaky start in the first innings, managed to post a total of 229/9, which proved to be sufficient as they bowled England out for just 129 runs. The impressive efforts of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah contributed to India’s convincing 100-run victory.

India’s next match is against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where they aim to extend their winning streak to seven games.
