ST. ALBANS, WV (WOWK) – The future of the former St. Albans Junior High School property is one step closer to being decided.
On Thursday, the city hosted a public meeting at the Hansford Center. It was facilitated by a committee comprised of St. Albans council members and volunteer residents.
The meeting was scheduled as an opportunity for the public to express their thoughts on the best way to revitalize the land.
Earlier this year, the city released renderings of possible options on the table. They included homes and townhouses, and another for a park.
St. Albans resident Annie Taylor prefers that the city build a park on the land.
“I think a park would be very nice. Something for the people. Maybe a dog park there in the area,” Taylor said.
William Reynolds, also a local resident, says he thinks either option would greatly benefit the neighborhood.
“That’s a hot topic of conversation. Quite frankly, anything would be better than what we had,” Reynolds said. “I just think anything that benefits the community. Any of those options that you mentioned would benefit the community.”
Mayor Scott James says after the meeting, the committee will discuss internally before making a recommendation to St. Albans City Council.
James says it may be a couple of months before the council holds a decisive vote.
