Saluting Both Teams for a Brilliant Run in the Tournament

Australia clinched a memorable victory in the 2023 World Cup Final against India, showcasing exceptional performances with both bat and ball. After restricting India to a modest total of 240 all out, the Australian team displayed resilience and skill to successfully chase down the target by 7 wickets.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised both the teams for their efforts. He consoled India for their loss in the final.

PM Narendra Modi’s message for team India

“Dear Team India,

Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You’ve played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation.

We stand with you today and always.”

He then praised Australia for their convincing performance in the final. He wrote:

“Congratulations to Australia on a magnificent World Cup victory! Theirs was a commendable performance through the tournament, culminating in a splendid triumph. Compliments to Travis Head for his remarkable game today.”

Australia‘s decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved strategic as their bowlers, led by Pat Cummins, applied pressure from the outset. Mitchell Starc’s early dismissal of Shubman Gill set the tone, and despite a brisk start from Rohit Sharma, Glenn Maxwell’s brilliance in the field, culminating in a stunning catch by Travis Head, removed the dangerous opener just shy of his fifty. Cummins then accounted for the in-form Shreyas Iyer, leaving India in a precarious position.

While Virat Kohli fought valiantly, scoring 54 off 63 deliveries, the boundaries dried up for India after the 10th over. Cummins’ consistency and Mitchell Starc‘s crucial wickets disrupted India’s batting rhythm. KL Rahul tried to anchor the innings, registering a determined half-century, but Starc’s dismissal of Rahul for 66 marked a significant blow. Despite a late effort from Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav, who contributed 14 runs for the last wicket, India finished at 240 in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing the target, Australia faced an early setback with Mohammed Shami dismissing David Warner in the second ball of the innings. However, Australia’s top-order showed resilience as Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head steadied the ship. Labuschagne’s composed half-century and valuable partnerships with the middle order, including Glenn Maxwell and captain Pat Cummins, anchored Australia’s innings.

Jasprit Bumrah managed to break through, removing Mitchell Marsh, but the damage had been done. Australia’s depth in batting came to the forefront as Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey provided crucial contributions. In a calm and calculated manner, Australia surpassed the 240-run target with both Stoinis and Carey notching up significant scores. The comprehensive team effort, blending effective bowling, sharp fielding, and composed batting, secured Australia’s victory in the World Cup Final, etching their name in cricketing history.
