Rural community organization raises $68,900 for nonprofits – Chico Enterprise-Record

OROVILLE — Six nonprofit organizations were presented with checks Tuesday after the Rural County Representatives of California raised $68,900 for local projects.

A press release issued Wednesday by Butte County said the funding comes from a yearly basket drawing and auction. In total, there are 40 baskets, each one themed after one of the 40 counties that are part of the organization.

Nonprofits selected consisted of Chico Velo Trailworks, the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association, the Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation, Four Winds of Indian Education, the Magalia Community Park and the Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue operation.

Butte County Supervisor Doug Teeter, who sits on the board for the Rural County Representatives of California, said in a statement the funding will provide aid to the organizations going forward.

“These contributions will assistance in bolstering the ongoing efforts of six incredible Butte County nonprofits, whose work has had an outsized impact in enhancing native wildlife rehabilitation, fostering recreational opportunities, facilitating wildfire rebuilding efforts, strengthening emergency response capabilities, and advancing education programs,” said Teeter. “I am sincerely grateful for the generosity displayed by our (Rural County Representatives of California) supervisors, county staff, and esteemed corporate partners and for their unwavering commitment to supporting California’s rural communities.”

The donations also included funding from the California Water Service to the tune of $5,000.
