Quaker Oats Recalls Even More Granola Bars, Cereals, and Instant Oatmeal

Over the holiday break, I threw out a handful of Quaker Chewy Granola Bars, my kid’s favorite snack, after Quaker Oats issued a recall. Although it was a bummer, it provided me with the opportunity to talk to my kids about why food safety matters and the importance of reading the news to stay informed.

Yesterday, Quaker Oats announced an expansion of the December 15, 2023 recall of its popular granola bars, cereal bars, protein bars, instant oatmeal, and snack mix. There are now 49 products on the recall list that have been sold throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan. You can find the full list of recalled products in the updated announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The products were recalled because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella, a bacterial infection that may be fatal for young children, the elderly, and those with a compromised immune system. Signs of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, and dehydration. According to the FDA, there haven’t been any confirmed reports of illness associated with this recall.

What To Do If You Have the Recalled Products at Home

Check your pantry and snack drawers for the recalled products, many of which have a long shelf-life—”best by” dates run through October 2024—so you may have purchased them before the recall. Do not eat any of the recalled products. You should discard them. For reimbursement, contact Quaker Oats online by calling 800-492-9322 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST.
