Parramatta Eels forward Andrew Davey to retire due to concussion issues

Parramatta Eels forward Andrew Davey could reportedly be forced into a premature retirement as he struggles to overcome issues with concussion.

Davey – who signed with the Eels in April after being given an immediate release from Canterbury – is under contract until the end of 2024.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports the second-rower is resigned to the likelihood that his career will end, however the club is yet to comment on the matter.

Most recently, Davey was knocked out against the Broncos in round 24 and had to be helped from the field.

After that incident, he did not play the final two games of the season. The second-rower was also knocked out against the Rabbitohs earlier in the year.

Davey has been in the news recently after he shared his version of events into his release from the Bulldogs.

Bulldogs legend James Graham then hit back stating 21-year-old Jacob Preston “embarrassed him” in pre season.

If Davey does retire, the Eels will have a number of spots to fill for next season after Josh Hodgson finished up due to a neck injury.

Both contracts could be wiped from the salary cap, pending the NRL’s decision.
