OROVILLE — High school athletes and other sports teams will be presented with awards at Oroville’s State of the City on Tuesday.
For Mayor David Pittman, the event poses an opportunity to recognize local partnerships and groups that provide good to the community — and in the near future, will be supporting coming growth to the city.
“We’re looking for a lot of growth,” Pittman said “We want to reinforce the fact that the community is capable of service that new growth that’s coming forth.”
Representatives from local utilities in water, sewer and power will be recognized by the city for their support in city functions.
Pittman said sports teams and parents will be recognized for their time and effort.
The city will also present the 2024 Samuel J. Norris Award for Excellence, created in 2002 to recognize outstanding efforts in the city.
Nominees for the award include Carole Foley with the Companion Animal Welfare Alliance; Lake Oroville Area Garden Club; Annie Terry with Oroville Resource Center and Rescue Mission; James “Jim” Edwards, “a ‘lifer’ of Oroville”; and Planning Commissioner Carl Furling.
The city will also present a historic preservation award for nominated buildings in the Oroville community.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever actually recognized we have so much providing good for the community,” Pittman said.
The State of the City begins 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Oroville State Theatre, 1489 Myers St.
