Oakland shop busted for selling tobacco products, cannabis to minors

(KRON) — An Oakland store was busted on Wednesday for selling tobacco products to minors and having a variety of illicit drugs, the Oakland Police Department said. No arrests have been made yet in connection to the store.

The investigation began after a resident notified OPD’s Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco Unit (ABAT) about tobacco and cannabis sales to minors happening at the store, which is located on the 3300 block of MacArthur Boulevard.

Officers visited the store on Wednesday and learned that it did not have valid licenses from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration and the city of Oakland, OPD said.

The officers also found psychedelic mushrooms and THC edibles, vapes and wax. A loaded gun was also taken by OPD.

OPD plans to send the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for charging. The Oakland City Attorney’s Office will also pursue legal action.

Police did not provide the name of the store that was busted.

In February, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) found a large amount of illegal drugs at another smoke shop in Oakland on the 5900 block of International Boulevard. The drugs included large bags of cannabis and suspected crystal meth.
