Nancy Sinatra Takes Shot at Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Lawrence’s Reported Frank Sinatra Movie Casting

Although fans were excited when it was reported that Martin Scorsese was working on a Frank Sinatra project, the legendary singer’s eldest daughter doesn’t appear to share the feeling.

Nancy Sinatra, Frank’s oldest daughter who is also an accomplished artist, recently took to social media (via World of Reel) to share a not-so-subtle jab at the project. Sinatra retweeted an image of her father and his wife, Ava Gardner, on Twitter with the original tweet’s caption reading “Sorry Leo and JLaw, you will never be them.”

The initial tweet is an obvious shot at the news that both Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence had been cast as Sinatra and Gardner, respectively. With Nancy retweeting the image, it seems like she’s also not fond at all at of Scorsese trying to make the movie.

Scorsese and the Sinatra estate have had a long history of disagreeing with one another. In 2014, Scorsese was looking to make a biopic on the iconic singer, but was blocked by his estate. In 2017, Scorsese reflected on the attempt, and said that the family wouldn’t agree to making a movie that he said wouldn’t be holding back anything about Frank’s life.

“Certain things are very difficult for a family, and I totally understand,” Scorsese said. “But if they expect me to be doing it, they can’t hold back certain things. The problem is that the man was so complex. Everybody is so complex — but Sinatra in particular.”

Frank Sinatara project in the works, but not official yet

According to Variety, Scorsese is planning to film a Frank Sinatra biopic sometime in the near future with DiCaprio and Lawrence. A studio is not yet attached to the project, though Variety reports Sony is said to be the current frontrunner.

Variety also reports that the film could “hit some snags” as Sinatra’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, controls her late father’s estate and has not yet signed off on the project.

DiCaprio has reportedly been tapped to play the legendary singer in Scorsese’s new movie, while Lawrence will portray Sinatra’s second wife, Ava Gardner. Further plot details are not available at this time.
