Leaked! Here’s Peugeot’s Model Y-rivalling E-3008

Peugeot’s rival for the hot-selling Tesla Model Y has been leaked ahead of its imminent reveal.

New images of the Peugeot E-3008 have been leaked on Korean website Autospy.

The images offer a full look at the vehicle which is set for a reveal on September 12.

The E-3008 follows the new 408 coupe crossover with a new, more rakish design language.

While the rear window slopes down like other coupe crossovers, the E-3008 has more upright proportions compared to the incoming 408 crossover.

Previous E-3008 teaser images only showed a good look at the vehicle’s side profile, albeit with the vehicle still covered in a pre-launch livery.

Leaked images reveal a more angular design on the lower doors, with obvious creasing accentuating the arches and black wheel arch cladding.

While we have seen the glasshouse previously, these new photos reveal what appears to be a window behind the C-pillar to aid visibility around the vehicle’s blind spot.

The funky four-spoke wheels also feature on the leaked images, which themselves are a similar style to those of the 408 crossover.

Similar to the 408, the front fascia on the E-3008 has slim-lined headlights which are intersected by a triple ‘claw’ LED daytime running light.

Compared to previous models such as the outgoing 3008 and 5008, the upper grille on the E-3008 and 408 is more seamlessly blended into the body work around its edges.

It appears only the bottom grille is used for cooling though, with the upper grille likely housing radar modules for an active safety suite.

The rear of the E-3008 features an LED light bar that stretches across the tailgate. The light bar is bookended by ‘claw’ light signatures that mirror the front daytime running lights.

A chunky piano-black diffuser occupies the lower rear bumper and houses rear light reflectors. A grey trim piece visually separates the diffuser from the rest of the body.

The E-3008 is expected to be underpinned by a version of Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform.

The company is promising best-in-class range, charging time, performance, efficiency, affordability and driving pleasure.

It promises more than 700km of WLTP range with a ‘Performance’ battery pack, and more than 500km with a ‘Standard’ pack, with useful energy of up to 98kWh.

STLA Medium vehicles will use a 400V electric architecture. Depending on the application, Stellantis promises energy consumption of less than 14kWh per 100km, and the ability to charge a vehicle from 20 to 80 per cent in 27 minutes – a rate of 2.4kWh per minute.

They’ll also offer single- or dual-motor powertrains with between 160 and 285kW of power.

Peugeot has already revealed the E-3008’s interior, dubbed the Panoramic i-Cockpit, which debuts a new interior design style for the company.

As with existing Peugeot models, the instrument cluster and infotainment touch screen is positioned further towards the windscreen. Both displays now live in a 21.0-inch curved display area that’s angled towards the driver, but still accessible to the front-seat passenger.

The dashboard features a tiered design, accentuated by wraparound body coloured trim and swathes of fabric. The fabric covers sections of the door-cards, centre console and dashboard, upon which the climate control screen, gear selector buttons and air vents are situated.

Important functions like the electronic parking brake, volume wheel and air conditioning functions are found on a tiered centre console along with cup holders.

The two-spoke steering wheel features touch-sensitive buttons, however, Peugeot says they will only activate until they are pressed with intent.

The E-3008 will join a growing range of electric Peugeots. The brand already offers the e-2008 and e-Partner in Australia, with the e-208 and e-Expert set to join them.
