Kieran Culkin cringes as co-star Julie Delpy says she wishes she ‘was African American’ in resurfaced interview

A resurfaced video shows Kieran Culkin cringing as his co-star Julie Delpy says she wishes she “was African American.”

In the clip, the actor sat by his “Wiener-Dog” co-star as she complained there was “nothing worse than being a woman” in the entertainment industry while promoting their 2016 film at the Sundance Film Festival.

“Two years ago, I said something about the [Oscars] Academy being very white male, which is the reality, and I was slashed to pieces by the media,” the France-born actress and writer told TheWrap.

“It’s funny — women can’t talk. I sometimes wish I were African American because at least people don’t bash them afterward when they say something about a reality — which is we live in a xenophobic environment.”

As Delpy, 54, uttered the words out of her mouth, the “Succession” star, 41, immediately put his head down, covering his face with his hand.

The “Home Alone” actor appeared uncomfortable as the duo’s other castmate Danny DeVito listened intently.

“It’s the hardest to be a woman,” the Oscar-nominated writer continued. “Feminists is probably something people hate above all. Nothing worse than being a woman in this business. I really believe that — actually in America because in France it’s fine.”

After the resurfaced clip started trending on social media, several fans took to the comments to express their disappointment in the “Two Days in Paris” star.

“I just saw Julie Delpy’s entire statements and it is worse than I thought,” one user wrote on Twitter. “She really just erased the struggles that Black women face everyday.”

“The way Kieran Culkin was wishing to be anywhere but there, next to Julie Delpy. smh,” another chimed in.

“That julie delpy clip caused me such visceral secondhand embarrassment like i have never understood kieran culkin more,” a third added.

“Oh julie delpy what the f–k?” a fourth wrote.

Reps for the Delpy weren’t immediately available for comment.

Days after making the comment, Delpy apologized. Andrew Ross/ABACA
“It was never meant to diminish the injustice done to African American artists or to any other people that struggle for equal opportunities and rights,” she told Entertainment Weekly at the time. Instagram/delpy.julie

The “Before Sunrise” star previously apologized for her statement, insisting she never meant to “underestimate anyone else’s struggle.”

“I’m very sorry for how I expressed myself,” she wrote in a statement to Entertainment Weekly days after making the controversial comment. “It was never meant to diminish the injustice done to African American artists or to any other people that struggle for equal opportunities and rights; on the contrary.

“All I was trying to do is to address the issues of inequality of opportunity in the industry for women as well (as I am a woman). I never intended to underestimate anyone else’s struggle!”
