Khelo India Youth Games: Records and other key stats from 5th edition

Khelo India Youth Games is an initiative by the Indian government to encourage the sports culture in the country. On January 21, 2018, India`s Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Khelo India Youth Games at Indira Gandhi Arena.

The Khelo India Youth Games 2023 was hosted across 11 cities in Madhya Pradesh. The fifth edition of India`s most anticipated competition was held from January 30 to February 11 2023.

Over 5,000 athletes from different states of India competed against each other.

Maharashtra clinched the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 title. A tally of 56 gold medals, 55 silvers and 50 bronze were added in Maharshtra`s account. Defending champions Haryana was the runners-up with 41 gold medals, 32 silvers and 55 bronze.

In the 2023 edition of KIYG, the most number of athletes which is 474 participated in the competition from the host state Madhya Pradesh. They ended up in the third spot with 39 gold medals, 30 silver medals and 27 bronze medals.

Rajasthan was placed in fourth position with a tally of 19 golds, 10 silver and 19 bronze medals. The fifth spot was in the name of Delhi with 16 gold medals, 22 silver and 26 bronze medals.

So far, Maharashtra is the most successful state in the Khelo India Youth Games history with three titles won in the years 2019, 2020 and 2023. Followed by Haryana with two KIYG titles won in the year 2018 and 2021.

Haryana won the KIYG title in the inaugural edition back in the year 2018 which was hosted by Delhi. One record is also in the name of Maharashtra to win clinch titles for two consecutive years.

Tamil Nadu is all set to host the sixth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games. The competition will be held in four major cities Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Trich. The event will host a total of 25 games. The much-anticipated sporting event of India will begin on January 19 till January 31.
