Kane Williamson Excited as New Zealand Gears Up with Fully Fit Squad for Sri Lanka Clash

In a press conference held before their final group stage match against Sri Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson expressed his joy at having a fully fit squad for the first time in the tournament. New Zealand has faced various injury setbacks throughout the competition, but they now have a healthy roster.

Among the notable injuries New Zealand had to contend with, pacer Tim Southee missed several matches, and Kane Williamson himself suffered a thumb fracture in his international comeback against Bangladesh. Lockie Ferguson was sidelined with an Achilles injury, and Matt Henry had to withdraw from the tournament due to a thigh injury.

Kane Williamson said

Speaking about the team’s fitness, Williamson stated, “Yeah, probably the first time we’ve had a fully fit squad, although obviously had to rule a player out and Matt Henry, but yeah, I believe everybody’s fit coming into this one. Or fit-ish.”

With Lockie Ferguson’s return, Williamson emphasized how it has bolstered their bowling attack. He mentioned that Ferguson’s ability to bowl at high pace complements their new ball bowlers, which provides a well-rounded bowling lineup.

Williamson also praised Rachin Ravindra, one of the standout players of the tournament. Ravindra, a young talent, has already scored three centuries and made valuable contributions with the ball. The New Zealand captain acknowledged his exceptional talent and performance in the tournament, stating, “Yeah, very, very special player and great that he’s on our side.”

New Zealand, with eight points from eight matches in the tournament, is currently in contention for the last remaining semi-final spot. They have an advantage over Pakistan and Afghanistan due to their superior run-rate.

The fully fit New Zealand squad, along with their talented players like Ravindra, will look to secure a place in the semi-finals as they face Sri Lanka in their crucial final group stage match.
