Juventus star Paul Pogba faces 4 year ban after failing anti-doping test

French football player Paul Pogba has been handed over a four-year suspension from football on Thursday. The ban jeopardizes the shining football career of a World Cup-winning player who initially tested positive in September 2023. The Juventus midfielder was sidelined after the test and has remained absent from the Bianconeri lineup ever since.

Paul Pogba and his representatives appeared before the National Anti-Doping Tribunal but failed to substantiate the claim that the 31-year-old was unaware of the substances entering his system. The tribunal then granted approval to the Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s Office’s plea for a four-year suspension.

Paul Pogba’s illustrious career

The French footballer kicked off his career with Le Havre but left it soon to join the youth academy of Manchester United in 2009. He professionally played for Manchester United for two years, before joining Juventus in 2012. Paul Pogba started gaining fame with the club as he played a key role in the team’s success.

He returned to Manchester United in 2016 in one of the most expensive football transfers at that time. Paul Pogba was one of the stars of France’s victory at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The midfielder is well known for his physicality, passing ability, and flair on the field.

What’s next for Paul Pogba?

Paul Pogba is expected to challenge his ban by appealing the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Things might get better for Pogba in case he gets some relief from the apex body as he is under contract with Turin until 2025. But, the club will not hesitate to terminate his contract if the Court of Arbitration for Sport upholds the decision of the National Anti-Doping Tribunal.
