James Gunn announces filming has begun on Superman

James Gunn has confirmed that filming has begun on Superman, and has shared the first partial image of the new suit.

Gunn took to social media on Thursday and shared a first look at the chest shield from the Superman suit while saying, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday (!).” He went on to add, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025. Happy Birthday, Clark!”

Along with that, he shared a brief glimpse of the new suit.

When we’ll see the rest of the suit is unknown.

The cast is set to include David Corenswet as Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. They will all be joined by Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer.

Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
