India vs England third Test; Ravindra Jadeja runs out Sarfaraz Khan

Ravindra Jadeja scored a century against England in the third Test – but it came at a cost after burning Indian teammate and debutant Sarfaraz Khan.

The 35-year-old all-rounder reached the milestone for the fourth time in his Test career on Thursday, finishing with an unbeaten 112 from 212 balls in Rajkot.

But it was the moment with Khan that left everyone dumbstruck, after Jadeja – who was one run away from reaching his hundred – completely barbequed his partner.

“Oh dear, Sarfaraz Khan is gone … Jadeja called yes to begin with and then no,” one of the commentators remarked.

“Sarfaraz was trying to get that 100 runs for his partner and had committed himself too much. As luck would have it, a direct hit gave him no chance at all.”

Khan - who was making his first appearance in international cricket – was left in pure disbelief and looked back at Jadeja, ending his maiden Test innings at 66,

The cameras would pan to Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the players’ box, who threw his hat on the ground in disgust after the fatal error.

”You’ve got to feel for the young man,” the other commentator said.

“You called for it Jadeja and stranded Sarfaraz. The anguish, the anger … what a debut innings from this young man though.”‘

The Grade Cricketer’s Sam Perry and Ian Higgins both poked fun at the incident on social media, with Jadeja celebrating his milestone in trademark fashion.

India finished the day at 5-326, with the aforementioned Sharma (131) also scoring a century at the top of the order.

Mark Wood (3-69) was the pick of the bowlers for England as they look to go ahead in the five-game series.
