SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Shreveport Mudbugs have put together an impressive season so far, sitting in second place in the South Division. There are several first-year Mudbugs who have played a huge role in Shreveport’s success this season.
One of those guys is Carter McKay, who is 10th on the team with seven goals so far this year. It’s not only his first season in Shreveport but playing in the NAHL.
The forward is from Saskatchewan, and he feels weather has been a huge adjustment for him.
“It’s a lot different from up north and playing in Saskatchewan,” explained McKay. “When playing in Saskatchewan. I mean it’s 30°C here. I’m not sure what it is Fahrenheit, but back home I know it was like -20° C.”
Aside from the climate, the first-year Mudbug has grown a special love for the people of Shreveport since moving here.
“Definitely the people,” shared McKay. “I mean everyone is so nice here. The southern hospitality, as you guys call it. Everyone welcomed me. It was a really easy transition.”
There’s no place like home, or the signature snacks from home. McKay misses one signature Canadian snack that you can’t get in the U.S.
“Ketchup Chips,” McKay said. “They’re always good to snack on. They’re the perfect sweet and sour.”
