Hundreds visit Bethesda neighborhood to view cherry blossoms

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – The Kenwood neighborhood in Bethesda is known for its abundance of cherry blossom trees.

DC News Now spoke with people visiting the neighborhood about what they enjoy most about these flowers. Visitors described the cherry trees as “amazing,” “happy” and “uplifting.”

Jay and Melinda Janda live close by and come to see the neighborhood cherry blossoms every year.

“They’re in really good shape for peak bloom being like a week ago,” Melinda Janda said. “They just really flood the streets and the whole view, so it’s just kind of beautiful.”

Some decided to make the trip to Kenwood a family outing.

“My sister lives right nearby and we’ve been here before.” Carolyn Crosby said, “I called here up this morning and just said, ‘Hey, let’s go. Let’s go see the cherry blossoms.’”

Visitors say it’s something they look forward to every year.

“The setting with all the cherry blossoms and the white flowers is just so stunning,” Andrea Sheehan said.

What some visitors enjoy the most is that the flowers bring people closer together.

“Everyone’s very respectful and kind of each other,” Dash Caruso said.

“It’s very connective to admire all the cherry blossoms,” Jett Caruso said. “Like, ‘Oh, look at that one. That one’s so beautiful.’”

People say they look forward to coming back out to see the cherry blossoms again next year.
