Superstar Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of Australia’s World Cup match against England this Saturday, with a concussion leaving a cloud over his short-term availability.
Wide World of Sports understands Maxwell suffered the head knock after he fell off the back of a golf cart earlier this week.
The absence of the 35-year-old all-rounder leaves a considerable hole in Australia’s batting line-up, with his top and middle-order flexibility being seen as an asset when chasing quick runs.

His availability beyond Saturday’s match against England remains unclear, with doubts surrounding his ability to recover in time for their penultimate group match against Afghanistan next Tuesday in Mumbai.
Maxwell has been in scintillating form this World Cup, hitting 196 runs at an average of 39.20 – including his record-breaking 106 off just 44 balls against the Netherlands last Wednesday.
The indefinite break comes after Maxwell missed Australia’s white-ball tour on South Africa earlier this year due to a left ankle injury.
A lack of luck with missing cricket of late is unfortunately not foreign to Maxwell, after also fracturing his fibula on the same leg in a freak accident at a 50th birthday in November last year.

The Victorian slipped while running on a private tennis court, before his leg became tangled underneath his friend and subsequently caused the fracture.
Australia faces England on Saturday (coverage starts on Nine and 9Now from 7pm AEST) looking to confirm its spot in the tournament’s semi-finals.
