Gautam Gambhir to bid adieu to Lucknow Super Giants & return to KKR in IPL 2024

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir could leave the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) and return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Though it has not been officially announced yet, Gambhir could return to KKR, according to a report in the Hindi daily Dainik Jagran. This could prove to be a big move for KKR, as the franchise managed to win the last IPL title back in 2014 under the leadership of Gambhir.

Meanwhile, former BCCI Chief Selector MSK Prasad has joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) backroom staff as a strategic consultant. His entry is part of changes in the mentor team, which also saw the inclusion of Australian legend Justin Langer as head coach. Langer replaced Andy Flower for the post. According to Dainik Jagarn, Gambhir is likely to follow Flower in leaving LSG. A source has told the daily, “After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise… I can’t say anything further beyond this.”

Interstingly, Gambhir who never minces his words, had criticised Prasad for his 2019 World Cup selection when he picked Vijay Shankar in the squad. Gambhir had called the selection ‘shocking.’

It would be a homecoming for Gambhir, as the Delhi batsman played a pivotal role in the team’s IPL title victories in 2012 and 2014. He was also a member of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad. Currently, Gambhi is playing in the USA in cricket’s shortest format, the US Masters T10 League.
