Chuck Romine, a longtime member of West Virginia’s House of Delegates, has died at age 87.
Romine, a Republican, represented communities in the Huntington area. He served in the House of Delegates from 1968 to 1974, and again from 1998 until his retirement in 2018.
Gov. Jim Justice ordered flags to be flown at half-staff today in Romine’s honor. In 2018, the year Romine retired from political life, Justice awarded him one of the state’s great honors, a Distinguished West Virginian Award, after his life of dedicated service in public and private sectors.
In addition to his role in state government, the Marshall University graduate established a successful insurance agency with State Farm, representing the company for over 40 years. He was also honored as Huntington’s Man of the Year in 1968.
Romine’s obituary indicates his death was preceded by 19 days by the love of his life and wife of nearly 66 years, Phyllis.
His family suggests contributing to one of two family scholarships at Marshall University: The James and Pauline Cremeans Scholarship in the College of Education, and/or, the Charles and Shirley Romine Scholarship in the School of Business through the Marshall University Foundation.
A Homecoming Celebration and Visitation for Chuck and Phyllis is scheduled today at noon in Smith Hall at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, a service of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Fifth Avenue Baptist Sanctuary, with The Rev. John Campbell officiating, and burial at the family plot at Ridgelawn Memorial Park.
