Dinner on the stage at the State Theatre returns – Chico Enterprise-Record

OROVILLE — It’s time to sidle on up to the bar for the Gold Rush at the State Saloon Dinner on the Stage fundraising event for the State Theatre on April 27.

“We transform the stage into an old west saloon where we set up all the table and chairs for the dinner,” said Cindy Daniluke, theater manager. “This is a unique dining experience that allows guests allows to see the theater from the stage view, something most guests usually get to do. It also is a great way to support this historic theater which is such a gem in downtown Oroville.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the catered dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. at the theater located at 1489 Myers St. Ticket for the event are $100 per person and $750 for a table of eight and are available online at https://www.orovillestatetheatre.com or by phone at 530-538-2470 through April 24. Seating is limited to 88.

Previously an annual event, Dinner on the Stage was last held in 2019.

“This is the first time we’ve been able to host the event since the COVID shutdown in 2020 and to reduce the ticket price by $150 from past years,” said Daniluke. “We’re very excited to be able to bring this evening of good food and fun back to the community.”

The dinner, in keeping with the old west theme, will be catered by Union and includes tri-tip, chicken, barbeque beans, mashed potatoes, vegetables and fruit cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Complementary water tea and coffee will be served and drinks will be available from a no-host bar.

The evening’s staff will be dressed in period costume and background music will be performed by the local duo Emma & Will.  Members of the State Theatre Arts Guild, the nonprofit that owns and operates the theater, will also be available to guide visitors on brief tours of the theater so the public can see and learn about the millions of dollars in restoration projects that have been done over the past decade.

In addition to the dinner and tours, the evening events also include silent and live auctions, a raffle and a door prize.

The State Theatre was designed by San Francisco architect Timothy Pflueger and opened its doors on April 7, 1928. In the late 1970s United Artists purchased the State Theatre with plans to operate it as a twin movie house. In 1983, the theater was purchased, with financial assistance from STAGE, by the city of Oroville. In 2021 the ownership of the theater transitioned from the city to STAGE.

The proceeds from the Gold Rush at the State Saloon Dinner on the Stage fundraising event will go toward the theater’s $150,000 annual operating costs.
