CARMEL — A fire broke out at a restaurant in Carmel on Tuesday and caused significant damage to the building.
The Monterey Fire Department responded to the scene at Carmel Burger Bar. During business hours, there was a report of smoke inside of the building. Everyone inside was able to exit safely.
When firefighters arrived, they found a fire originating from the kitchen behind a stove in the wall and crawl space. Crews were able to contain the fire to the room, which prevented the fire from spreading to the connecting businesses. No injuries to anyone in the building or any firefighters were reported.
The building sustained significant fire and structural damage, with estimated losses set at about $175,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but firefighters say it is not considered suspicious.
A total of 25 fire personnel, led by the Monterey Fire Department responded including three engines, two ladder trucks, four chiefs and a fire investigator from the Monterey and Pebble Beach Community Services District Fire Department. American Medical Response, the Carmel Police Department, the county Health department, Carmel CERT and PG&E also responded, according to the Monterey Fire Department.
