Two seemingly bogus boards have been fixed to fences beside the Sun Clock Tower, in Ascot Road, with one claiming Connells is selling it while another says Taylors is.
However, both estate agents have told the Watford Observer they had nothing to do with it.
Connells had apparently already had other locals call in to ask about the building, while Taylors was unaware that its sign had even gone up in Ascot Road.
This is not the first time that the building has been falsely advertised for sale. In April a resident spotted a board suggesting Dey King & Haria Estate Agents had listed it, but again the estate agents quashed the bogus claim.
The Sun Clock Tower had previously been the source of controversy. In 2021, plans to demolish the 1930s tower were rejected after more than 200 objections were made. Then in November last year posters were printed criticising fencing being put up around the building, which has been in disrepair since the 1980s.
Responding to the posters at the time, a borough council spokesperson highlighted “ongoing legal proceedings relating to the site”.
The building is privately owned.
