Batman comes to New York City for his 85th anniversary

Detective Comics #27 first hit newsstands on March 30th, 1939, introducing the world to Batman and changing comics forever. Since that time, Batman has starred in innumerable comics, TV shows, games, movies, toys, clothes, and from time to time, breakfast cereals. He is one of the most iconic characters in the world, and it all began that one Thursday morning.

Now, 85 years later, Batman is celebrating the occasion by taking over the original Gotham: New York City. On March 30th, the famous SoHo News International newsstand will be giving away limited edition reprints of Detective Comics #27, including a modern retelling of “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate” written by Brad Meltzer and art by Bryan Hitch.

The event begins at 11 AM EST at the SoHo News International at 186 Prince St, New York, NY 10012. The limited edition will be given away, one per person, on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last. Additional copies will be given away at the following locations:

  • Action City Comics
  • Alex’s MVP Cards & Comics
  • Bulletproof Comics and Games
  • Forbidden Planet NYC
  • St. Mark’s Comics
  • Midtown Comics Times Square
  • Midtown Comics Grand Central
  • Midtown Comics Downtown

This all acts as the kickoff to the global celebration of Batman’s 85th anniversary. Events will continue throughout the year, culminating on Batman Day on September 24th.
