Zoya Akhtar is currently gearing up for the release of The Archies. The filmmaker recently addressed reconsidering the casting choices of star kids. In an interview, she expressed discomfort at the notion of excluding someone from a role solely based on their famous parents. This film marks the acting debut of Suhana Khan (daughter of Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan), Khushi Kapoor (daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor), and Agastya Nanda (grandson of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan).
Zoya admitted that while she briefly pondered this concern, she ultimately convinced herself not to dwell on it, believing these individuals were the best choices for the roles. She emphasised that if people appreciate their work, they’ll similarly appreciate these newcomers.
Regarding the star kids’ auditions, Zoya highlighted their promise for the roles, making it awkward for her to overlook their potential. She emphasised that it felt odd to reject someone for not being famous while equally strange to dismiss someone due to their famous lineage. Ultimately, she proceeded with casting based on merit.
In addition to these star kids, The Archies will also introduce fresh faces like Mihir Ahuja, Yuvraj Menda, Vedang Raina, and Aditi Dot Saigal. The film which is an Indian adaptation of the popular Archie comics will be released on December 7, 2023 on OTT.
