Twitter user Abhijit Basak who identifies as IT cell in-charge of BJP North Kolkata tweeted the photograph and questioned, “Are they so afraid because they are illegitimate children of illegal fathers?” The rest of the tweet targets people following a Leftist ideology.
The image has also been shared on Facebook.
Alt News reverse-searched the image on Google with the keywords ‘documents nonrccaanpr’ and was led to the Facebook page of Kolkata Pride. Upon rummaging through the photos uploaded by the page, we found another photo where the same woman is holding a similar placard. One of the comments had tagged one Dipanwita Paul.

The phrase ‘খুলবো না (will not take off)’ has been morphed to ‘খুলে দেবো (will take off)’ and the image has been cropped to remove ‘NOTGBILL’ which is a reference to the Transgender Persons’ (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019 which was passed in the parliament in November 2019. The part which has been morphed is highlighted in green below. As evident, while the placard is handwritten, the morphed text is digital.
A photograph of a woman holding a placard against the CItizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the Transgender Rights Bill was therefore morphed to portray that the placard read, “Will take off my clothes and saree but not show documents”.
