Unmarried parents eligible for bereavement benefits under DWP proposals | Personal Finance | Finance

As part of the DWP’s proposal, Widowed Parent’s Allowance and Bereavement Support Payments will be extended to all surviving unmarried parents, who were living with their partner at the time of their death.

Currently, Bereavement Support Payments are issued with a first larger payment, followed by 18 smaller monthly payments.

These are paid out across two separate rates, with the higher rate including an initial payment of £3,500 and 18 payments of £350, which is issued to those entitled to Child Benefit.

For those not eligible for Child Benefit, they will be paid an initial payment of £2,500 and 18 payments of £100 as part of the lower rate.
