Two King City men sentenced to life in prison for 2019 Greenfield murder – Monterey Herald

SALINAS — Two Sureño gang members from King City have been sentenced to life in prison for their involvement in the 2019 murder of a Greenfield man.

Eduardo Solis, 21, and Jose Juarez, 24, were convicted in June for the murder of 19-year-old Charles Jose, as well as conspiracy to commit murder, shooting at an occupied dwelling and street terrorism.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Solis conspired with two fellow Sureño gang members in January 2019 to find and kill rival Norteño gang members in Greenfield. Before traveling to Greenfield, the trio visited the King City residence of Juarez, also a Sureño gang member, who provided the trio with three firearms and disguises.

Solis and three co-conspirators then traveled in what was ultimately the shooter’s vehicle from Juarez’s residence to Greenfield, the DA’s Office said. Minutes later, Juarez traveled to Greenfield in a separate vehicle.

For over 30 minutes, the co-conspirators scoured Greenfield for rival Norteño gang members, while Solis and Juarez separately passed Jose as he was washing and cleaning his car in front of a friend’s home on 7th Street. Solis and Juarez reconvened with their co-conspirators at a Greenfield gas station, where they discussed prospective targets they located in Greenfield. They then decided to murder Jose.

This decision, the DA’s Office said, rested on the lone fact that Jose was wearing red, a color worn by Norteño gang members. However, Jose was not a gang member.

After the group’s gas station meeting, the shooter’s vehicle immediately traveled to Jose’s location on 7th Street. As Jose continued to clean his car, Solis exited the shooter’s vehicle and fired 17 shots. Six of those shots struck Jose. The remaining shots struck two homes on 7th Street and three vehicles parked on 7th Street.

Following the shooting, Juarez followed the shooter’s vehicle from Greenfield back to King City. When he returned, the DA’s Office said that Juarez purchased a celebratory beer for Solis and the other occupants of the shooter’s vehicle.

Sentenced by Judge Mark Hood, Solis received a 50-year, eight-month-to-Life sentence, and Juarez received a 30-year, 8-month to life sentence.

Two additional defendants in this case, Brayan Urrutia-Flores and Luis Sarabia, face trial in early  2023.
