HAMILTON CITY — Late Thursday night, dispatchers with the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office got a call that gunshots were heard near Broadway and First Street in Hamilton City.
The call came in at roughly 11:45 p.m. and upon responding to the event, deputies, along with California Highway Patrol officers, received additional information regarding a white sedan with someone inside shooting from the vehicle.
A press release issued Friday by the Sheriff’s Office said the driver was identified as Gerardo Solorzano, 40, of Hamilton City and the passenger in the vehicle as Moises Cortez, 23, also of Hamilton City. According to the release, a handgun was in plain sight inside the vehicle. When searching the sedan, law enforcement officers also found an AK-style rifle along with a high-capacity magazine and ammunition.
Both Cortez and Solorzano were arrested on suspicion of possible firearm-related charges. The release said it was also determined that Solorzano was a convicted felon and investigators would likely recommend he be charged with being a felon in possession of guns and ammo as well as drunk driving.
The release said the investigation is ongoing. Those with information or seeking additional information can call the Sheriff’s Office at 530-934-6441.
