Canterbury is on the search for a halfback and Ben Hunt is in Phil Gould’s sights.
The St George Illawarra halfback is one of the favourites to win the Dally M Medal this year, and is on the NRL market as of November 1.
Revelations earlier in the week claim the Dragons are prepared to pay him between $700,000 and $800,000 – a fair reduction on the $1.2 million salary he currently enjoys.
Gould is rebuilding the Bulldogs and wants a class halfback to partner young five-eighth Matt Burton.
“He is a very impressive person, but at no point did we talk about an offer or money. It was a conversation to get to know him. I simply said if things don’t work out we’d like to chat to him then.
“We are after a halfback and a fullback. Ben Hunt is an obvious choice and he has a lot of the qualities a club looks for.”
