Once again, for nearly two months PhEST will transform the city’s spaces into an open-air exhibition, bringing the best of photography and art from around the world to the city to explore this year’s theme: “The Future”, through which the festival organizers aim to provide an opportunity to evoke the interconnection between different temporal planes while imagining an era dominated by Artificial Intelligence and algorithms.
Among the names of the artists on show there are Nick Brandt, Alexander Gronsky, Davide Monteleone, Erik Kessels, Bil Zelman, Arko Datto, Ișık Kaya, Thomas Georg Blank, Frederik Heyman, Emanuela Colombo and Michela Benaglia, Quinn Russell Brown, Noeltan Arts.
PhEST will host three prestigious artistic residencies: Mattia Balsamini, one of the most highly regarded emerging photographers on the international scene, will reflect on this year’s theme with The Future in Apulia, an unpublished work in residency; Alessandro Cracolici will create an interactive installation, where the artist is the community and his face is the union of all the faces of PhEST visitors; Piero Percoco and Sam Youkilis, in an instant residency, for the first time as a duo, will describe on social media the city of Monopoli, its inhabitants and how they interact with the arrival of PhEST in the city. The result of the residency will be published on social platforms and presented with a talk during the opening days.
