Cricket just introduced a fantastic way to save on its unlimited plan, and there’s only one string attached. If you pay for multiple months upfront rather than on a month-by-month basis, then the effective savings start to add up quickly. And the longer the period you prepay for, the more you’ll save.
The unlimited plan is usually $55 per month. Here’s a breakdown of the savings you can make on the multi-month scheme:
- Three months of unlimited voice and data when you pay $120 in advance — an effective rate of $40 per month giving a total of $45 in savings.
- Six months of unlimited voice and data when you pay $210 in advance — an effective rate of $35 per month giving a total of $210 in savings.

Right now, Cricket Wireless is offering several smartphone deals for free. You have to switch your old number over to Cricket (excluding any AT&T numbers), then sign up for a plan that’s at least $30 or $60 per month, depending on the device you want. As with all phones sold by Cricket, these handsets must be used on the carrier for six months before they can be truly unlocked.

Another perk of signing up for a $60 per month plan is that you’ll get the ad-supported version of Max (formerly HBO Max) thrown in for free. Once you’re signed up to Cricket, all you need to do is open the Max app and select the option to sign in with a provider.
