The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, champions of the NFC, faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs, champions of the AFC. The game was coached by Bruce Arians for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Andy Reid for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Buccaneers had a solid regular season, finishing with a record of 11-5. They had made a number of key signings this season, including Rob Gronkowski, Leonard Fournette, and Ndamukong Suh. The team started slow but found its identity as the season drew to a close.

The Chiefs also had a successful regular season, finishing with a record of 14-2. They won their division and then defeated the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game to advance to the Super Bowl LV. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the team’s offense, completing 385 passes for 4,740 yards and 38 touchdowns, and the defense was solid, led by defensive tackle Chris Jones, who recorded 9.5 sacks that season.
