Ready for some football – Monterey Herald


Eddie Esteban from Pacific Grove was one of 44 players who turned out for the first day of football practice on Sept., 2, 1959 at Monterey Peninsula College with coach Tor Spindler. Esteban would go on to win all-league honors at MPC in both football and baseball and would later be named to the school’s Lobo Hall of Fame. Esteban went on to earn a football scholarship at the University of New Mexico according to his obituary. Esteban returned to the Peninsula after serving in the Army and coached youth sports in the area while working for the post service. He died at age 67 in 2004. (Monterey Herald archives)
