Ragnarok Is the Fastest-Selling First Party Title in the Sony PlayStation History

Leading up to the release of God of War: Ragnarok, every gamer believed that the Santa Monica Studios-developed title would be a commercial juggernaut. Just a week after the launch of the game, Sony has confirmed this theory. According to the latest announcement, the sequel to the hit Game of the Year-winning title has become the fastest selling first-party title in the company’s history.

God of War: Ragnarok has sold 5.1 million units worldwide within the first week. With this, Ragnarok is well on pace to become one of the best-selling video games of all time. The first week performance of the game sales broke past records set by other popular PlayStation titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II, and even the 2018 God of War.

God of War Ragnarok is a critical and commercial hit for Sony PlayStation

Santa Monica Studios will surely be minting money with the second title in the Norse saga of God of War. And just like the 2018 title, God of War Ragnarok has also become a critical darling alongside its impressive commercial performance.

In our 10/10 review for God of War: Ragnarok, IGN India dubbed the Santa Monica Studios title “The Best Gaming Experience of 2022,” with praises to its storyline, characters, locations, combat and more.

Critics across the world have joined IGN India in praising the game. The initial reception to the game has made Ragnarok one of the favorites for Game of the Year wins this year. It will be interesting to see how the title fares in comparison to other hits of 2022 like Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West and more.
