This 2023 Auto Expo the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited unveiled its long-anticipated lifestyle off-roader Jimny five-door. The SUV broke cover after being in talks for months and even before its official launch, the company has already garnered around 15,000 bookings. What’s even more impressive about this milestone is that the company achieved this after increasing the booking amount from Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 to avoid getting non-serious customers. Recently the company in an attempt to bring in more buyers shared a new short video on its Youtube channel which shows the Jimny throughout its generations.
The video was shared via the company’s official Instagram handle and in the video, a small child and his grandpa can be seen having a conversation. In the beginning, the child in the video stares at a toy car on the shelf in front of which it was written “do not touch”. However, the kid despite the warning grabs the toy car and behind his grandfather notices him. He then comes and confronts the kid with a light tone and following this the kid questions him that why does he have a toy car?.
To which the grandpa replies that this toy car belongs to the father of the kid and carries on by saying, “Let me tell you a story” Following this the old gentleman starts by telling that the first generation of the Jimny was born in the same year as the worlds first jumbo jet the Boeing 747 was inducted into service with Pan Am. He stated that the first jumbo jet was created to take the people higher and farther in skies and same was the case with the creation of Jimny which was built to take people higher and farther but on land.
He then moved forward with the story and told that after the success of the first Jimny the second generation Jimny was born in 1981. The second gen SUV was made to move through mighty mountains, rivers and sandy shores. After which the kid asks, “And then?” to which the grandpa replies, that in 1998 the Jimny changed once more. He stated they called this generation of the Jimny the “Mountain Goat”.
Following this as he went on to add that in 2023…., a new fourth generation Jimny arrives in front of the window of the house and the kid and the grandpa take a glance on it. The grandfather then tells his grandchild that, “looks like your father has finally got his dream car.”
The commercial is a well thought out and pictured representation of the heritage that the Jimny moniker carries. The model has been popular ever since its launch and it has continued to be one of the most popular off-roading SUVs across the globes. The five-door Jimny, is the elongated iteration of the already popular fourth gen three-door Jimny which has been available in the international markets since 2018.
The all-new Jimny five door is the brand’s sole offering in the country with a ladder-on-frame chassis and with a dedicated off-road system. The SUV is equipped with the Suzuki AllGrip Pro system, which includes 2H, 4H, and 4L low-range transfer gear. Maruti Suzuki hasn’t formally endorsed the low-ratio gearbox’s exact ratio.
