Kia Seltos to get 6 airbags as standard across trims ahead of Govt regulations mandating it

The Kia Seltos compact SUV is all set to gain 6 airbags across all trims, according to a new report on Team-BHP. Notably, the Indian government’s regulations mandating 6 airbags on all cars sold here come into force from 1st October 2022. The addition of airbags is likely to make the Seltos a safer SUV. The Seltos already offers 6 airbags on the top-end trims, and the lower trims get 4 airbags as standard. The addition of two more airbags is likely to result in a marginal price increase. Ex-showroom prices of the Kia Seltos start from Rs. 10.19 lakh, going all the way up to Rs. 18.45 lakh. The Seltos was Kia Motors’ first car for the Indian market, and has been a super-hit ever since launch in 2019.

The compact SUV rivals the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and the Nissan Kicks directly while in price terms overlaps with the Tata Harrier, Safari, MG Hector twins, and the Mahindra XUV700. The Seltos is feature-rich and also offers thrilling performance. There are no less than 24 variants on offer, which means that there’s something for everyone in the Seltos’ line-up.

The entry-level model is the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol with 113 Bhp-144 Nm, and a 6 speed manual gearbox. On higher trims, the same engine is also offered with clutchless manual (IMT) and CVT automatic gearboxes. The petrol engine that enthusiasts will love is the 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged unit, good for 142 Bhp-242 Nm. This motor is offered with 6 speed manual and 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearboxes.

The Seltos also gets a 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel engine with 115 Bhp-250 Nm outputs. The diesel motor gets a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard while higher trims can also be specified with a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Like the base petrol, the turbo diesel engine also gets a 6 speed IMT (clutchless manual) gearbox option, which offers the best of both worlds: high fuel efficiency and convenience.

As for features, the top-of-the-line Seltos gets a massive touchscreen infotainment display that runs across half the dashboard, with a slew of functions, an electric sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear AC vents, air purifier, automatic headlamps and wipers, cruise control, reverse parking sensors and camera, front parking sensors, art leather clad seats, electric front seats with ventilation, automatic cruise control, hill hold, 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control and multiple drive modes.
