The Elder Scrolls Online: Gates of Oblivion expansion global reveal event has been delayed by Bethesda due to the U.S. presidential inauguration.
The Elder Scrolls Online publisher Bethesda has announced that its Gates of Oblivion reveal event has been rescheduled due to the U.S. presidential inauguration. The Elder Scrolls Online: Gates of Oblivion was initially teased during The Game Awards last December, alongside other game announcements during the show, with a global reveal event originally scheduled for January 21, 2021.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Gates of Oblivion is set to be the latest expansion for the popular MMORPG and will feature the titular world that was also one of the major locations in 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV. The world of Oblivion is home to the universe’s Daedric races, including the demonic Daedric Princes and other lesser Daedra. The trailer for Gates of Oblivion teases one of the more prominent Daedric Princes, Mehrunes Dagon, who was the main antagonist of The Elder Scrolls IV and could now see a return in the new The Elder Scrolls Online expansion.

Bethesda announced the change in schedule via The Elder Scrolls Online Twitter account, citing the fact that the U.S. presidential inauguration will be taking place on January 20. This prompted the company to change the date of its event to January 26, 2021. The global reveal event will be streamed live via Bethesda’s Twitch channel, where fans can also collect Twitch Drops and a Viridescent Dragon Frog pet for free. The event will be led by Pete Hines, Bethesda’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, and ZeniMax Online Studios’ Director Matt Firor.

The Elder Scrolls Online’s Creative Director Rich Lambert and other members of the game’s development team are also planned to join the show to talk about some of the content that will be introduced in Gates of Oblivion, including its “new worlds, challenges, and adventures.” The presentation will then be followed by a reveal deep dive hosted by The Elder Scrolls Online Community Team members Jessica Folsom and Gina Bruno.
Rescheduling the global reveal event of The Elder Scrolls Online: Gates of Oblivion away from the U.S. presidential inauguration definitely feels like a smart move by Bethesda as the latter is set to be a rather historical event in the country Allowing it more room to be focused on by the gaming community alongside the general US public, even during the days immediately before and after, is a good show of respect for the occasion. Regardless of when the global reveal takes place, fans of The Elder Scrolls Online will have a lot to look forward to with Gates of Oblivion. Hopefully, the expansion’s release date will finally be announced during the event.
