The Buffalo Bills cruised to a 32-6 victory over the New York Jets in Joe Brady’s first game as interim offensive coordinator. The Bills improved to 6-5 on the season and eighth in the AFC at the time of the game’s conclusion.
The onslaught was on from the very first play of the game.
After winning the coin toss, Buffalo deferred to the second half. As New York returner Xavier Gipson made his way past the 20-yard line, fullback Reggie Gilliam laid the hammer on the rookie and forced a fumble, which Quintin Morris recovered. The Bills had to settle for a field goal after Allen took a sack on third down, but the tone had been set as Buffalo led for the remainder of the game.
After kicking three consecutive field goals, the Bills offense got in the end zone after Buffalo cornerback Rasul Douglas’ second quarter interception set the Bills up just outside the red zone.
Douglas jumped in front of a pass intended for Garrett Wilson to set up Buffalo just outside the red zone. The Bills capitalized, with Allen finding Cook wide open on his way to the end zone for the Bills’ first touchdown of the game.
Quarterback Josh Allen finished with 275 yards, three passing touchdowns and an interception. He continued to rely on tight end Dalton Kincaid, who led the Bills with six receptions for 46 yards. Stefon Diggs had four receptions for 27 yards and Khalil Shakir had three catches for 115 yards.
The Bills rush defense held the Jets, led by running back Breece Hall, to just 63 yards on the ground and 92 passing yards. Their ability to take away the run game led to an effective pass rush. Jets quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle, who took over for Wilson in the second half, were sacked six times.
Defensive end Leonard Floyd accounted for 2.5 sacks as the defense dominated the line of scrimmage. Shaq Lawson’s first quarter sack was his the first of the season.
The Jets didn’t convert on third down a single times out of their 11 opportunities, but were 4-for-5 on third down.
