Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) said that while playing for the team in the IPL 2023, Gautam Gambhir was a great teacher to him. Notably, the Krunal Pandya-led team was eliminated from contention for the playoffs after suffering a humiliating loss to the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator.

When asked about his relationship with his guru Gambhir after the defeat, pacer Naveen-ul-Haq said that the India great taught him many things.

Naveen Ul Haq talks about Gautam Gambhir

“Mentor, coach, player or anyone. I will stand for each teammate on the ground, and that’s what I expect from each individual also. He (Gautam Gambhir) has been a legend for India, he has huge respect in India. He has given so much to Indian cricket. As a mentor, as a coach, as a legend of cricket, I respect him a lot and have learnt so many things from him. How I should go about my cricket inside the field and same thing outside,” told Naveen in the post-match presentation.

Mumbai Indians will compete against the reigning champion Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on May 26 while LSG were eliminated. The five-time champions will attempt to secure their place in the championship round and add a record-extending sixth championship to their historic resume.

Naveen claimed four wickets for 38 runs at an economy of 9.50 during the game against MI. Additionally, during the current season, the pacer made eight appearances for the team and claimed 11 kills. Naveen recognized that, although enjoying a good season, the team’s objectives take precedence than individual performances.

“To be honest, it (his season) was good. We could’ve done better as a team. Individual performances don’t count. At the end of the day, our team goal was to win the trophy. My individual performance comes second. It was a good season for me, I learnt quite a few things from this IPL, and hopefully (I’ll) come back stronger,” he added.
