Arcadegeddon Becomes First PS5 Game to Get AMD FSR Support

0

The recent patch for Arcadegeddon added support for AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) on the PS5 version of the game, making it the first console game to utilize the feature.

The game, revealed during PlayStation’s last State of Play showcase, has added both FSR and Unreal Engine’s Temporal Anti Aliasing Upsampling to give a clean image output as well as improve in-game performance. Patch 0.1.3 also added support for both features on the PC version of the game.

When AMD released FSR to developers, the company made it clear that they intend to utilise the feature across PC and console games. Developers claimed that FSR is easy to add to their existing graphics pipelines, and Xbox revealed that they will be using the technology to boost performance in games on its platform. With that said, it’s quite surprising to see the first console title using it to be on the PS5 whose APU uses the same RDNA 2 GPU architecture as that found in the Xbox Series X|S consoles.

AMD’s FSR is a special upscaling technology that aims to tackle the same problems that Nvidia’s DLSS does, but without the need for machine learning. While Nvidia’s solution is to use AI and machine learning hardware on its RTX 20 and 30 series graphics cards, FSR is a platform-agnostic solution which aims to boost game performance, while taking a bigger hit to the image quality.

Arcadegeddon is a co-op multiplayer shooter that is out now on PC (Epic Games Store) and PS5 in early access.
