All-new KTM Duke 390 sportbike unveiled: Gains power and torque

KTM has officially unveiled the 2024 Duke 390 for the global market, marking the third-generation iteration of this iconic motorcycle. This latest version comes with a host of updates, encompassing both visual and mechanical aspects.

When it comes to single-cylinder engine motorcycles in India, the new 390 Duke is truly iconic. However, it’s important to note that there are fresh contenders in this segment, bearing the legacy badges of Harley-Davidson X440 and Triumph Speed 400. Both are formidable rivals, with the Speed 400 showing remarkable vigor in its challenge to the 2024 KTM 390 Duke.

The new-gen Duke 390 features broader LED headlamps with boomerang-shaped DRLs. The fuel tank shrouds on this Duke are notably more extensive, protruding further and lending a more aggressive appearance compared to the previous model. The overall design of the new-gen naked motorcycle exudes a larger and more commanding presence.

KTM has increased the engine capacity of the new-gen Duke 390 to 399cc. This single-cylinder, liquid-cooled powerplant now produces a robust 44 BHP and 39 Nm of torque, surpassing the old engine’s figures of 42.9 bhp and 37 Nm. This enhanced displacement promises improved in-gear performance. Notably, KTM continues to offer a slipper clutch, a bi-directional quick shifter, and a 6-speed gearbox, features familiar to the current 390 Duke. However, the 2024 model comes with a range of new electronics, including launch control and three ride modes (Rain, Street, and Track).

What sets the new-gen Duke 390 apart is its array of electronic rider aids, including three ride modes (Street, Rain, and Track). For the first time, KTM is offering launch control on the Duke 390. The bike also features a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster, smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and Bluetooth connectivity for calls and music control. This advanced display allows riders to manage ride modes and other settings conveniently.

While KTM has yet to officially announce the pricing for the new-gen Duke 390, it is expected to arrive in the Indian market soon. Overall, the 2024 KTM Duke 390 showcases substantial improvements in design, performance, and technology, making it an exciting prospect for motorcycle enthusiasts. As has been the case in the past, Bajaj Auto will build the all-new range of small capacity KTM Duke motorcycles including the 390 in India, at its Chakan factory. Bajaj and India will continue to be an export hub for small capacity KTM motorcycles.
