It’s been more than 11 years since The Vampire Diaries premiered on the CW and time has seriously flown by. Viewers were first introduced to the Salvatore brothers and the mysterious town of Mystic Falls on September 10, 2009 and after eight seasons the fan-favorite series said its final goodbye on March 10, 2017.
The show — based on the book series of the same name by L. J. Smith — followed a vampire who returns to his Virginia hometown, which is filled with supernatural beings, and fell in love with a recently orphaned teenage girl. The Vampire Diaries starred Nina Dobrev,Paul Wesley, Candice King, Steven R. McQueen, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino and Matthew Davis. Ever since it ended, fans have been hoping for a reboot, but according to Ian, it’s not in the cards for these stars.
During a February 2021 interview with Sirius XM’s Radio Andy, the actor admitted he has “not heard anything about a season 9.”
“What would happen? Damon would have like, gray hair and they’d have canes. Like, ‘Oh, I’ve got to feed the baby,’” he joked, adding that the beauty of the show is that fans can rewatch it on Netflix. “Now, it’s still living. That’s what’s so amazing.”
The actor’s comments came weeks after his costar, Nina, looked back at her time on the show with a throwback Instagram post in January 2021. “Is it weird to say that I miss being attacked on a regular basis?” she captioned a selfie, posting with The Vampire Diaries script.
Nina also teamed up with Kat in June 2021 to “break the internet” with a surprise Instagram selfie. “So I was sitting here on a Sunday, just chilling, and I thought to myself, ‘Can I break the internet?’ And then I thought, ‘Yes, I think I can break the internet,’” the actress said before panning the camera to her onscreen BFF. “Consider yourself broken, internet.”
