Priyanka Chopra admits being a mom is ‘overwhelming’

Priyanka Chopra revealed in a new interview that she is fearful of making mistakes in her motherhood journey.

“I think when you put them to bed, it’s extremely overwhelming because every single day you worry about what you can do wrong and what mistake you might make,” the actress, who shares 1-year-old daughter Malti with husband Nick Jonas, told People Saturday.

“But you have to check yourself, and I check myself with my family.”

Chopra admitted that motherhood has been full of “scary” yet rewarding moments.

“It’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s extremely scary,” she also told the outlet.

However, Chopra has been able to find reassurance that she is doing a good job as a mother through her daughter.

“I look at [my daughter’s] smile, and I’m like, ‘Okay, okay. I’m doing good so far,’” the “Quantico” alum said.

The “Citadel” star admitted that there are moments looking after her 1-year-old daughter that are “extremely scary” for her.

Since welcoming their little one, Chopra, 41, said that motherhood has also brought on some unexpected sides of herself.

“It’s made me a tad more sensitive and fragile, I think, and it makes me nervous a little bit. I didn’t expect that,” she shared.

Chopra and Jonas, 31, welcomed baby Malti via surrogate on Jan. 15, 2022.

The “Citadel” star recently opened up about her daughter’s 110-day stay in the NICU unit following her birth, gushing over Jonas’ support during the tough time.

“I remember [Jonas] just held me by my shoulders, and I said, ‘Just tell me what to do, because I don’t know what to do,’” she told Today in April.

“And he’s like, ‘Just get into the car with me.’ And we drove to the hospital.”

Malti stayed in the NICU for 110 days.

Despite fearing for their daughter’s health, Chopra recalled how she wanted to be strong for her daughter as she fought for her health in the hospital.

“I don’t think it was our test. I think it was her test,” Chopra said. “I realized very, very early that I did not have the luxury to be scared or to be weak because she was scared and weak.

“And I had to be her strength as her mom. I needed to make her feel at every given moment that she’s not alone … that we’ve got her.”

“I realized very, very early that I did not have the luxury to be scared or to be weak because she was scared and weak,” Chopra recalled.

Once they were able to bring their daughter home, Chopra noted that her fears didn’t end there.

“[In the NICU], you know your child is alive because you can see their heartbeat [on the monitor]. I couldn’t sleep for days because now suddenly she was home without a monitor,” the “Love Again” star explained.

She continued, “I used to put my ear on her chest. I would wake up every couple of minutes just to see if she was OK. For weeks, this went on.”

Chopra recently made an appearance at Jonas’ Orlando, Fla., concert with Malti in attendance.

The new parents kept Malti out of the spotlight for quite some time as she regained her strength, but the little one has slowly been making appearances out with her famous parents.

Earlier this month, Chopra brought Malti along to Jonas’ Orlando, Fla., show to show support for her dad.

“Bring your family to work day. ❤️,” Jonas wrote via Instagram alongside photos of the touching moment.
