Pakistan Adjusts Asia Cup Squad, Includes In-Form Saud Shakeel

Saud Shakeel, known for his impressive consistency in the red-ball format, has been making waves in the cricket world. While he didn’t make a mark in his initial five ODIs, his Test career has been remarkable, boasting an impressive average of 87.5 after seven matches. To the surprise of many, Saud was initially omitted from Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Despite fans and experts hoping to see Saud’s skills showcased in the white-ball format, the team management went with Iftikhar Ahmed for the first two ODIs against Afghanistan. This decision drew anticipation, as the World Cup looms just over a month away. Saud eventually made it into the squad for the third ODI against Afghanistan, but his appearance was short-lived.

On a positive note, Saud received news that he would be added to Pakistan’s Asia Cup squad. At the same time, Tayyab Tahir was named the traveling reserve for the tournament. While Tayyab was part of the squad for the Afghanistan series, he did not get the opportunity to play.

Pakistan’s recent ODI series against Afghanistan ended in a whitewash victory for Babar Azam and his team. The comprehensive performance against Afghanistan bodes well for Pakistan’s confidence heading into the Asia Cup. Pakistan, a two-time Asia Cup champion, is placed in Group A alongside debutants Nepal and arch-rivals India. Their campaign will kick off on August 30 against Nepal in Multan.

Saud Shakeel’s inclusion in Pakistan’s Asia Cup squad reflects his growing reputation and form in the red-ball format, and fans are eager to see how he will perform in the upcoming white-ball competition.
